Save On Fuel Consumption

Here at Edmond Hyundai, we like to think about our fuel economy as a means to get from point A to point B with the least amount of gas possible. We are going to list how you can save fuel by changing the way you drive.

You see, your vehicle’s fuel economy depends mainly on your style of driving, where you are when you drive and when you drive. These factors can affect how many miles you can get from a gallon of fuel.

Here are a few suggestions to help you save money in fuel economy:

  • Drive smoothly: Accelerate at a moderate speed. Don’t make quick starts or full-throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruising speed. Don’t race between stoplights. Avoid heavy traffic so you don’t have to change speeds. Maintain a safe distance between you and other vehicles to avoid unnecessary braking.
  • Drive at a moderate speed: The faster you drive the more gas your vehicle uses. By driving at a moderate speed, you can reduce your vehicle’s fuel consumption.
  • Don’t “ride” the brake pedal: This can increase fuel consumption.
  • Travel lightly: the more weight you carry increases your fuel consumption.
  • Don’t keep your engine on idle longer than necessary: If you are waiting (and not in traffic) turn off your engine and restart only when you’re ready to go.
  • Use your air conditioning sparingly: The air conditioning system is operated by engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when you use it.
  • Don’t keep windows open at high speeds: open windows at high speeds can reduce fuel economy.
  • Fuel economy is less in crosswinds and headwinds: slow down in these areas to save on fuel economy.

Keeping a vehicle in good operating condition is important both for economy and safety. You should have your vehicle regularly scheduled for maintenance checks and repairs. If you have any questions, please contact Edmond Hyundai today.
